“If your child enjoys science and wants to explore the subject outside of the classroom, or if you just want them to brush up on topics being covered in class, then this DVD is for you. As you join the cleverly animated Marko the Pencil and his friend the talking light bulb, you will learn about the scientific method: Question, Gather, Hypothesize, Experiment, Conclude and Report. (Parents: You knew that already, right?) Then it's on to the Matter Learning Center for lessons on melting and boiling points, what is conductivity, color, density, hardness, magnetism and much more.” – Review from The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval
"The information on this DVD is presented in a fun and interesting way. The animation and music sections help make the content easier to remember than if it were presented in a book, or by monotone or television classroom presentation with a single speaker. The animation is very colorful, and the question and answer portions between the characters help the viewer understand the content. The jokes are also fun and add interest to the presentation. My children enjoyed this DVD." – reviewer, iParenting Media Awards, Greatest Products
“Physical Science is an educational DVD designed to teach young people in grade 5 and up about lab safety, the scientific method, and a wide range of basic topics covered in any physical science test ranging from the parts of atoms to molecules and states of matter, understanding magnetism and electricity, motion and gravity, and much more. Playful characters host this enjoyable viewing experience, which features a special bonus section where viewers can practice earning high scores on a multiple-choice physical science test. Correlated to National Science Educational Standards, Physical Science is highly recommended as a supplementary resource for science classrooms as well as for middle school library and public library collections, especially in this modern age which needs young people to take an interest in science more than ever before!” – Midwest Book Review Children's Bookwatch DVD Shelf
"My children loved the content of the DVD and how it is presented. The animation is great and communicates the content in an effective and interesting manner. The Marko the Pencil character is engaging and does not annoy the viewer. The content of the DVD is interesting and provides education on many physical science topics. I especially like that the introduction to the DVD first gives a lesson on safety in the lab. This is extremely important, and I am glad that the DVD expresses this to the viewer. The lesson topics are informative without being too lengthy, so they hold the viewer's attention. My children commented on the safety information as it was presented because it reinforced information that they had already learned in science class. The music portions were entertaining; my children thought the dancing and singing test tubes were fun and helped remember the scientific method. The talking tools make the presentation fun for young children. There were controls on the DVD that were available that allow you to skip to portions of the disc; this is helpful to the viewer if you are returning to a previously viewed section. My children enjoyed the practice test portions and thought they helped reinforce what is learned in the main Physical Science sections on the DVD. The different speech accents were also interesting. The website is easy to use and has a lot of information. I like that the information on the website is free, and you don't have to supply any personal information for access to the content. The testing materials are in pdf and gif formats, which make them easy to open. Having the answer key and answer sheets available is great for parents, teachers, and home school. This is a terrific educational product." – reviewer, iParenting Media Awards, Greatest Products
"This wonderful DVD really helps students get prepared for a physical science test. What makes this DVD so useful is that kids love it! They want to watch it, and the concepts are explained in a way that makes them easy to grasp at any level. I also like the bonus section that allows students to practice scoring high on a physical science test, using questions like the ones they will actually see on a standardized test." – Jeannette D., teacher

Kevin's science test is approaching. Unfortunately, his study partner called and can't make it. Marko, a magical pencil, comes to the rescue by taking Kevin to Marko's Super Science Station. Kevin prepares for his test by first learning about lab safety.
Next, Marko introduces Kevin to his friend Lumina, an animated light bulb. Lumina shows Kevin how to remember the 6 steps of the scientific method: Question, Gather, Hypothesize, Experiment, Conclude, and Report. Next comes the Matter Learning Center to gain an understanding of atoms, the particles of an atom, molecules, and states of matter. Kevin also explores the properties of matter that include melting point, boiling point, conductivity, luster, color, odor, density, hardness, magnetism, and texture. He discovers the differences between physical changes and chemical changes and mixtures versus pure substances.
Surprise! Kevin's chair blasts off to the Electricity Learning Center to learn about electric circuits and how opposite electric charges attract each other. Kevin and Marko then move on to the Magnetism Learning Center where Marko's friend Terra, an animated globe, helps Kevin understand the poles of a magnet and build a simple electromagnet.
Kevin and his friends visit the Motion and Gravity Center to learn about gravity, mass, distance between objects, velocity, acceleration, inertia, friction, and resistance. At last, everyone explores the Energy Learning Center to learn the different forms of energy, including heat, electrical, sound, chemical, mechanical, and light.
By the end of the main section of this DVD, Kevin has enjoyed learning important concepts about physical science. In the Bonus Section, Kevin and Marko practice a physical science test with questions similar to the ones Kevin will see on his test. This section helps prepare students for state-mandated tests that have multiple-choice questions about physical science. Marko has a special website where students and teachers can download a sample test and obtain free study material.
This DVD will help your child or your students learn about physical science and gain useful test-taking skills.
