Body Parts of a Spider – song lyrics

Some people are afraid of creepy crawly spiders, (Ooh yeah. Ooh.)
But I think they are cool, I take a view that’s wider. (Ooh yeah, let me show you why.)

Spiders are arachnids; they are not insects.
Let’s learn about them now so we’ll know what to expect.

All spiders have two main body parts.
Let’s learn their names so we can tell them apart.

The cephalothorax holds the jaws, legs, and eyes,

While the abdomen is where the spinnerets reside.

At the front of the spider there are jaws tipped with fangs
Each fang is connected to a poison gland.

At the sides of the jaws a spider has pedipalps
Used for sensing and holding not for walking about.

Nearly all spiders have eight simple eyes,
And at the end of their eight legs two or three claws might reside.

At the back of the abdomen are usually six spinnerets
Used to spin silk for many different uses.

Spiders can be helpful cause they are good at hunting pests. (Ooh yeah.)
Some stalk their prey, some wait for it,
And others use their webs. (Ooh, talkin’ ’bout spiders.)

Cephalothorax:
Anterior body segment that holds the eyes, jaws, fangs, pedipalps, and legs. It contains the brain, poison glands, and stomach.

Carapace: the part of the exoskeleton that shields the cephalothorax.

Abdomen:
Posterior body segment that contains the heart, digestive tract, reproductive organs, lungs, and silk glands.

Exoskeleton:
A tough outer skin that protects and supports the body like a suit of armor.

Life Cycle of a Spider – song lyrics

Life cycle of a spider.
Life cycle of a spider.

Most adult female spiders are bigger than the males.
So if she is hungry, a mate she might kill.

Some males do things to try to appease her.
Some bring food, and some might dance,
And sometimes these things please her.

It’s kind of like a date; then the spiders mate.

The mother lays her eggs in the egg sac that she spins.
Some mothers guard this sac, but for some this is the end.

When some spiderlings hatch, they climb as high as they can.
Then they let out some silk and go ballooning on the wind.

The spiderlings molt when larger they get.
This means they shed their skin ’cause it no longer fits.

After molting several times, the spider is an adult.
Then the cycle repeats, as a result.

It’s the life cycle of a spider.
It’s the life cycle of a spider.

Body Parts of an Insect – song lyrics

Some insects are pests, and some are our friends. (Yeah!)
Now, let’s take a little closer look at them.

Insects have protective exoskeletons.
And six jointed legs which some use to run.

All of them have three main body parts.
Let’s learn them now, so we can tell them apart.

First is the head; it’s used to sense and to eat. (Yeah!)
The eyes, mouth, and antennae – they help the insect find a treat. (Mmm. Hmm.)

The thorax is used to help insects move.
It’s what their legs and wings are attached to.

The abdomen is the largest part.
It does many things, breathing’s just the start.

It also helps the insect to reproduce and to digest its favorite foods.

Yeah, some insects are pests, and some are our friends.
They all have a head, a thorax, and an abdomen.
